mass dialogues continue in 2009

The mass dialogues was a global outreach initiative from the UNFCCC COP14 climate negotiations in Poznan in December 2008, aimed at extending the learning and inspiration of young people at the negotiations to groups of young people around the world. It used web 2.0 to engage participants in a cross-cultural dialogue on the international climate process and on the active participation of young people in it. The initiative was convened by 2degreesC, with support from Coracle Consulting and in collaboration with youth partners and youth service organizations from around the world.

the mass dialogues 2008: Overview

Using the WEbex online meeting platform, the mass dialogues enabled a series of web-based meetings to extend the youth experience at the COP14 climate negotations to groups of young people all over the world. In total, there were 10 dialogue events delivered in six languages that engaged hundreds of participants from at least 11 countries. The initiative was made possibly through funding contributions from International Development Research Centre and British Council.

2degreesC is looking to convene a partnership to design, fund, deliver and build on the mass dialgoues 2009. The dialogues will be delivered from the forthcoming UNFCCC COP15 climate negotiations in Copenhagen, at which a new global climate agreement is to be finalized. 

the mass dialogues 2009 are aimed at two overarching objectives:
- Inspire and enable new and more active youth participation and citizenship on climate change. Through the use of communications tools and resources, young people will be empowered via greater connectedness, access, continuity and scale.
- Achieve a proof of concept for effectively using a suite of information and communications technologies (ICTs) and supporting methods and processes for enabling wider and more effective youth empowerment in current affairs.
