Book showcases how local governments are stepping up

July 30th, 2008

In February 2008, Municipal World Inc. published the book Stepping Up to the Climate Change Challenge: Perspectives on Local Government Leadership, Policy and Practice in Canada, co-edited by Susan Gardner and David Noble. The book features stories from local government leaders and practitioners from across Canada, many of whom are leading the way on climate change practice at the local level. It includes chapter contributions from 2degreesC’s Aiden Abram, Trevor Dixon Bennett and David Noble, and a Foreword from Conference Board of Canada President and CEO Anne Golden.

Through financial support from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction and Alberta Municipal Affairs and Housing, nearly 4,000 copies of the book were freely distributed to local government leaders across Canada. Additional copies can purchased online at .

The book evolved out of a successful two-year long partnership between Municipal World and 2degreesC on a print article series in Municipal World magazine. Through it, they produced 23 articles that were shared with the more than 7,000 Municipal World subscribers and through 2degreesC’s electronic distribution. David Noble authored or co-authored six articles in the series, and coordinated contributions from the 31 authors from across Canada (and one from the US) who shared their experience and expertise.
