Internship program launches
As the company builds on its work on youth engagement on climate change, a number of projects have been flagged for a 2degreesC internship program that will run for the next two years.
Kicking this program off, the 2degreesC team welcomed its first interns on October 27. Kelly Smith, of Oakville, ON and Dayna Giesler of Walkerton, ON have joined the team until the end of 2008. Both are students in the University of Guelph’s International Development program. Each will tackle a specific project geared toward knowledge-building on youth participation in the international climate change negotiation process.
Kelly is researching the history of youth involvement at the UN negotiations since the initial Rio Earth Summit in 1992. This research will be valuable for understanding the breadth and depth of the youth movement, and as a helpful reference for guiding future action in the international process.
Meanwhile, Dayna is hard at work preparing for a series of live videoconferences 2degreesC is spearheading while leading activities at COP 14 in Poznan, Poland. The videoconferences will provide an opportunity for students around the globe to tune in to youth leaders on the ground at the UN climate change negotiations, ask questions, and learn first-hand about the intergovernmental response to address climate change. We would like to thank leading web-conferencing service Webex for supporting this initiative.
A warm welcome goes out to Kelly and Dayna as they embark on this important work.
