Publications profile climate impacts for health, children

August 15th, 2008

David Noble contributed to two major publications in 2008 that profile climate change impacts, vulnerabilities and responses for health and for children.

The first, Human Health in a Changing Climate: A Canadian Assessment of Vulnerabilities and Adaptive Capacity (6.2 MB), represents the first comprehensive assessment of health vulnerabilities to climate change in Canada. It provides an up-to-date synthesis of knowledge on how the health of Canadians is affected by our climate today, and what may lie ahead under future climate change. David Noble was a contributor to the chapter on the Impacts of Climate Change on Water-, Food-, Vector and Rodent-Borne Diseases (376 kb).

The second report, Climate Change and Children: A Human Security Challenge (2 MB), is a policy review paper that examines the human security implications of climate change for children and identifies the vital role of children and young people as active participants and agents of change in the societal effort to redress the climate crisis. The review was produced by UNICEF for the Foreign Ministry of the Government of Greece as chair of the Human Security Network, as a contribution to an initiative on the human security implications of climate change coordinated by the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP). A summary version was presented at the International Conference on Human Security and Climate Change and the Ministerial Meeting of the Human Security Network in May 2008. David contributed substantively to, and edited, the review.
